Red River Quilter’s Guild – Quilts of Valor
November 6 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
RED RIVER QUILTERS’ GUILD – Quilts of Valor
The Red River Quilters’ Guild is a not-for-profit, non-discriminating organization as regards to race, color, creed, age, sex, or national origin for those interested in all aspects of quilting. Its purpose is to preserve the heritage of quilting, to be a source of information and inspiration, to perpetuate a high quality of excellence in quilting and related arts, and to be a gathering for people with a common interest in quilting. Members do not have to be proficient in the art of quilting.
The general meetings are held on the first Monday of every month at First Presbyterian Church. Registration begins at 6:30 and the meeting begins at 7:00.
The guild members make comfort quilts to give to Red Cross for fire victims, Patsy’s House for children, the Teen Shelter, a Boy’s Home in Hollis, OK, and other projects as approved by the members. 60 comfort quilts were given this past year.
In 2016, members gave 69 patriotic quilts to local veterans in a patriotic ceremony in November. Quilts of Valor is a national program to honor our military veterans of all ages. The guild is planning another presentation for November 2017. Small scholarships are offered to MSU art students annually.
A workshop is offered on the third Saturday of most months, where members and non-members can learn to make a specific quilt. Classes are also available for beginners to learn how to quilt.
